Why Group Training Works

October 07, 20255 min read

When it comes to group training at Primitive x Swole AF, we pride ourselves on the community we’ve built here. Group training can be a great tool for someone who is just getting started in the gym or people who benefit greatly from community and mutual accountability. Our coaches strive to create an environment where anyone at any fitness level can feel comfortable and encouraged in their time spent with us. Our main goal is to create a strong foundation with you; we aim to build not only your physical strength, but your mental strength as well so you can take the tools you acquire from us and use them to your advantage in future fitness endeavors. We think our group training classes (not to be confused with our private gym) are one of the best ways to do just that.

This group gym location, which sits in the same plaza just 30 yards away from our private gym, includes squat racks and benches, free weights, sleds, rowers and a 30 foot turf strip straight down the middle of the unit. Primitive x Swole AF holds group training classes 5 days a week with around 5 to 7 classes being held each day. We also put on the occasional weekend event, such as a HYROX Simulation or a sports event day like flag football. Our trainers run their scheduled classes in the mornings at 5:00, 6:00 and 9:00am as well as in the evenings at 3:30, 4:30, 6:00pm and 7:00pm. Each class comfortably fits around 10 to 15 people and we have a running weekly schedule on our website that includes the contents of every class by the day. These classes are filled with short circuit exercises that focus on functional fitness and lifting as heavy as safely possible over the course of an hour long session. The main purpose behind this setup is to ensure all members with almost any type of schedule can plan ahead and get out here to put in work with us.

When it comes to our trainers, we fully acknowledge that not every trainer is for every athlete, which is why we have detailed descriptions of who our trainers are and exactly what they bring to a class. This is meant to ease the mind of a member that likes to have all the information before they head off to work with us. Though, no matter who the coach is, all of them have the same dedication to their athletes. Obviously showing up in a new class with strangers can be intimidating. You may not know anyone and on top of that, you may not have much experience with working out in general. There is an intimidation factor that accompanies being in a new place for the first time and it is only intensified by performing a task you aren’t familiar with. We want you to know that all of those feelings are okay and showing up in the first place truly is the hardest part. Our coaches Nathaniel, Daniel, Adan and Fernando have their members' best interest at heart and their enthusiastic commitment to your journey is infectious. They provide the structure and accountability that can definitely make or break a group fitness class experience.

At the end of the day, group classes in general are an amazing way to find a like minded group of individuals working towards a common goal. The feeling of being left behind or being watched and judged in the gym dissipates because the community surrounding you is there to uplift you in any way possible. Here at Primitive x Swole AF, community is our priority because we know how vital of a role the environment plays in positive change. We want to support not just the physical side of wellness, but also the mental. Being part of a workout community can help with stress relief, improve mood and reduce anxiety all just by showing up for yourself and putting in that effort. Our members can attest to this themselves. There are multiple member testimonials that share their experience before and after joining our community and all of them claim to have joined for a good workout and stayed for the family feeling.

FAQs

Q: I’m new to fitness. Will I be able to keep up in group training?
Absolutely. Our coaches are here to scale every workout to your level and help you build confidence at your own pace. Everyone starts somewhere.

Q: How many people are in each class?
We cap most classes between 10 to 15 people. That’s enough for a group energy boost, but small enough to get personal attention from your coach.

Q: What if I don’t know anyone?
You won’t feel like a stranger for long. Our classes are built on community, and most of our members will tell you they came for the workout but stayed for the people.

Q: What should I bring to my first class?
Just show up in gym clothes with a water bottle. We’ll take care of the rest.
