How to Stop Craving Junk Food Without Restricting Yourself
Adapted from a recent Instagram story by Coach Adan Martinez.
Coach Adan hopped to talk nutrition. Not macros. Not the newest supplement stack. Something simpler, and honestly harder: how you actually approach food, day after day, when nobody is watching.
He calls it the PP Method. Performance over Pleasure.
Here is what he shared:
What Eating for Pleasure Really Looks Like
Eating for pleasure is the default most people fall into without thinking about it. Snacking on things you know you shouldn't be snacking on. Fast food because it is right there. Processed, refined stuff that tastes good in the moment and leaves you hungry an hour later because there is almost no micronutrient value in it.
Quick note from Coach: tasty and healthy are not opposites. Food that tastes good can absolutely be good for you. The problem is not flavor. The problem is reaching for convenience foods that give you nothing back.

What Eating for Performance Looks Like
Performance eating starts with a different question. Instead of "what do I want right now," you ask:
How do I want to feel in tomorrow's workout?
How do I want to sleep tonight?
Do I want to drag through the afternoon or feel sharp?
If you are not sleeping well, something in your diet might be off. Maybe you are going to bed hungry. Maybe there is a micronutrient deficiency getting in the way of recovery. Food is not just fuel for the gym. It is fuel for sleep, focus, mood, and everything in between.
The Craving Trick
This is the part most people need to hear.
Coach Adan does not restrict. He schedules.
He loves pizza. When a craving hits on a Tuesday, he does not say "I can't have that." He says "I'm going to have pizza this weekend." Saturday rolls around and sometimes he is not even feeling it anymore. So he pushes it another week. Then another. His cravings sometimes stretch out for months, not because he is white knuckling it, but because his nutrition is dialed in enough that he genuinely feels fine.
Pay attention to the language. The shift is small but the shift is everything.
"I can't have that" is restriction. Restriction builds resentment.
"I'm going to have that, just not right now" is permission. Permission builds patience.
You do not have to start by stretching cravings for months. Start with a couple of days. Then a week. Before you know it, you are stretching them naturally, and you have built something more valuable than a smaller waistline. You have built discipline. You have built grace. You have built patience.
That is what power actually is.

Grace Is the Whole Game
Coach kept coming back to one word: grace.
Give yourself grace. Let yourself adapt slowly. Do not try to overhaul your entire kitchen on a Monday morning. Slowly filter out the foods that are holding you back. Keep the ones you love in the mix for now. Just start moving the needle.
His own routine looks unglamorous on paper. He eats a lot of the same foods. He keeps protein high. He takes his vitamins. He tries to get variety inside each meal rather than trying to eat something wildly different every day. Simple. Repeatable. Boring in the best way.
When the Gym Numbers Go Up But the Mirror Does Not Change
This is the frustration Coach hears the most. Your lifts are climbing. You feel stronger. You are seeing density in some areas. But those stubborn pockets of body fat are not budging.
That is a diet conversation, not a training conversation.
You cannot out-train a nutrition problem. If the mirror is stuck while the barbell keeps moving, it is time to look at what is on your plate, when you are eating it, and whether you are eating for performance or for pleasure.

The Only Rule That Matters
Coach closed with the line that hits hardest:
If you don't start, it's never going to happen.
You do not need a perfect plan. You need a first move. Pick one food to filter out. Pick one craving to schedule instead of restrict. Pick one meal to actually think through instead of grabbing whatever is closest.
Grace. Patience. Discipline. In that order. Repeated forever.
