2026 HYROX World Championships
Congratulations Alyssa McElheny!

Alyssa McElheny is a rising Pro HYROX athlete from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who has achieved one of the fastest breakthroughs in the sport's history after transitioning from elite marathon running.
Running Background
Marathon PR: 2:34:27 (Indianapolis, Nov 2025) — qualified for U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials after 12 years of attempts
College: Division III All-American in 3,000m steeplechase at Calvin University
Running History: 23+ years; peaked at 90–105 miles/week; only one significant injury in 20+ years
Current Training: 55–60 miles/week + HYROX strength work; runs 7 days/week
Personal Story
Diagnosed childhood with Kawasaki disease (heart condition), which initially cast doubt on her ability to pursue sport seriously. She founded Village Rec Club run club and describes herself as "stubborn" with a mindset built for long-term goals.
Her steeplechase background (broken rhythm by barriers) translates well to HYROX's stop-start format. Her taller, muscular physique — a limitation in marathon — becomes an advantage in strength-based HYROX movements like sled push, SkiErg, and wall balls.
Now HYROX is her main focus, and she says: "I think my body and brain are built for this sport".
